Postpartum Supplements: What New Mothers Actually Ask For

Ask a room of new mothers what they want from a postpartum supplement and you will hear the same five things: affordable, reliable, clean ingredients, safe while breastfeeding, and one thing to take instead of five. Here is what each of those really asks for.

“Affordable”

Compare price per serving and per month, then check whether choline and DHA are included. A cheap bottle that needs a separate omega-3 is not cheap.

“Reliable”

In Canada that means an NPN and a third-party certificate of analysis for the batch — potency, heavy metals, microbiology. Ask for it; a reliable brand has it.

“Clean ingredients”

Usually means: no artificial colours or flavours, no gelatin, low or no sugar, and forms the body uses (methylfolate, methylcobalamin, bisglycinate iron). Check the non-medicinal ingredients too.

“Covers the postpartum nutrients”

The ones mothers list, and dietitians agree with: iron if needed, folate, vitamin D, B12, iodine, plus choline and DHA for breastfeeding. Magnesium and a probiotic are common extras.

“Something I’ll actually take”

The best formula is the one that survives month four. Two gummies with or without food is easier to keep than a handful of capsules on an empty stomach.

That list is the brief Postpartum Daily was built to. See what is in it.
